T.S. Eliot

I’m not quite sure what made me think of it today, but for some reason I had T.S. Eliot’s poem, The Hollow Men running through my mind. This inevitably led me to look up a few of his other poems that I’ve enjoyed (the Wasteland, etc) and I ended up ordering a copy of his collected works from Amazon.

I swear I used to have a copy of his poems before, but I have no idea where they went.

Looking forward to digging in to his mind again.

Samsung Just Killed My Xoom Lust

Well, well… it looks like waiting for a bit and not buying Motorola’s Xoom was good for a few reasons (now including that they’re stopping production on them).

A month ago I swapped out my Palm Pre for the HTC Evo 4G and so far have been surprisingly pleased with Android. I’ve had an iPad since launch, but even though it’s a very nice device, I still can’t get over the walled garden of Apple. It’s part of why I’ve never been an Apple fan, I guess (I used to love customizing the components on my PCs – something Macs never let you do).

So, all of this, along with the fact that I’ve loved every Samsung device I’ve had (TVs, Blu-Ray and even my old Instinct phone) gets me very excited to see that they’re finally learning from the mistakes they made with the first Galaxy tab (in particular, price and size) and are coming out with some very tasty looking updates.

The numbers are all there for the specmeisters, with this reworked Galaxy Tab rocking a slightly larger touchscreen over the iPad 2, higher resolution, a 1GHz dual core processor and lighter 595g weight compared to the 601g of the iPad 2 Wi-Fi. But the most important number of all is its price. Unlike Samsung’s overpriced predecessor, the 16GB Wi-Fi Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will cost exactly the same as the iPad 2 Wi-Fi 16GB: $499. Bam!

Looks like a Galaxy 10.1 is in my future. Now I just need June to get here (unless Samsung wants to send me one early … wink, wink).

Oh yeah… I forgot to mention that I picked up a Xoom a few weeks back for the office so we had a good-sized Honeycomb Android tablet to use for app development. I really dug it and the new WiFi only version was at the top of my “to-purchase” list. Samsung squashed that idea.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy – Limited Edition Extended Editions’ Blu-ray Officially Announced!

There we go Warner Bros. Now you’ve given me and a lot of other people who really were big fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy a reason to upgrade to Blu-Ray.

It’s now official! Peter Jackson’s extended trilogy is coming at the end of June — and ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ WILL receive a brand new transfer!

As previously reported, Warner Brothers’ ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy – Limited Edition Extended Editions’ will be released on June 28.

Ever since I picked up the movies in their extended editions I’ve not once wanted to go back and watch them in their original theatrical versions. So, when the original theatrical versions came out on Blu-Ray I was kind of “meh.” Now, color me excited.

Putting Stuff on a Mantle is Harder Than It Sounds

We’re almost done with decorating the living room in our house (only moved in like four years ago) and it’s pretty crazy how difficult it can be to get things just right. Today we went to The Bruce Company and picked up some final “stuff” to put on the mantle and it’s been rearranged at least a dozen times now.

My wife is out test driving some Mitsubishi SUV, so I’m home with the kids and they’re watching Yo Gabba Gabba … so I took it upon myself to try my own hand at arranging.

What do you think? Maybe it’s time to just burn the whole thing down?

Althouse: I really do feel sorry for these young people who screw up their internet reputation.

Even if you have no human kindness at all and care only about yourself, how can a moment of passion be worth all the damage you do to your reputation?

Interview at The Copyright Alliance about ‘Starving the Artist’

Recently I was contacted by The Copyright Alliance to answer a few interview questions about my latest book, Starving the Artist.  Part One of the Interview is now available, and Part Two is coming tomorrow can be read here..

For those of you unfamiliar with The Copyright Alliance, they are a “a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization dedicated to the value of copyright as an agent for creativity, jobs and growth.” They’re also the recent recipient of the Arnold Broido Award for Copyright Advocacy.

All-in-all, they’re a fantastic organization (in my opinion), and one that any creator or individual who cares about copyright or artists’ rights should be aware of and follow. You can learn more about them here.

20% Of May Sales for Starving the Artist to be Donated to Tennessee Flood Relief

Working in the music industry, I’ve spent some time in Nashville, and I know what a great city it is. It, and Tennessee in general, are home to the greatest songwriting and music community in the world – as well as millions more magnificent individuals. This is why, when I heard the news and saw the footage of the destruction from the recent flooding, I felt it important to give to help out this area and people in need.

Since my new book focuses quite a bit on the plight of musicians and songwriters, I thought it would only be fitting to try to help out by giving 20% of all sales of Starving the Artist throughout the month of May to Tennessee Flood Relief. So, not only will $2 of every paperback sold and $1 of every Kindle download sold go toward helping this treasure trove of our heartland, but by reading the book hopefully respect of the value of what this community of songwriters and musicians creates for us will grow as well – helping them to flourish in the aftermath through their hard work and creativity.

Of course, if you’d like to donate directly you can do so as well. Donate to the American Red Cross online here, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Again, $2 of every paperback and $1 of every Kindle edition sold throughout the month of May will be donated to the American Red Cross for Tennessee Flood Relief.
